I had a timid room-mate named Kishore in our school hostel. During the day time he used to act like a fearless king but when the sun goes down i.e. at the night he became very timid. My very first night in the hostel with him was very funny. At midnight I got up, hearing some odd sound. I lit on the Lantan and found Kishore was not on the bed. He was on the floor and taking high breath with some odd sound like asses bray. He was in full of fear. After litting on the light he was looking at me and trying to say something but his voice was coming out like a snakes hiss. As that was my first night, I was looking at him, felt nerves and could not understand what to do. But I was trying to understand what he was telling.
Ravi was astonished a little and asked-Why?
Ravi said-I know you are one of the greatest philosophers. I don’t want to argue with you. Better tell me what you want me to do?
Ravi disappeared.
Boo….th..
Where?
Behind the wa….ll.
Agh…
I had an emergency torch at that time. I came out with the torch and checked behind the wall. There were absolutely nothing but I heard a TV sound coming from the other side of the hostel. I understood this sound was Kishore’s BHOOT.
My thoughts became true when I asked him. He added that he saw somebody near the window calling me. I had nothing to explain him. But my logic about Kishore’s somebody was a gentle breeze shaking the window.
I was enjoying good day times but nights were little trouble for Kishore’s odd sounds. But after someday it was not bothering me at all.
But after someday another trouble started when another room-mate left the room. Kishore started calling me at about 10-10.30 almost every night to go with him towards the toilet as he feared the darkness.
One or two days would have been ok but every night the same thing repeated. I threatened him but there was no effect and could not avoid his request.
I made a plan by myself to avoid going with him for his toilet.
Next evening I called my another classmate Ravi who is staying beside our room in hostel and told that around 10-10.30 if Kishore called me please tell him- I am going out.
I will. But is there anything wrong? -Ravi replied.
No nothing as such. But I am in a secret little mission.
What?
Yes. I am going to scare Kishore.
I am fade up of going towards the toilet with him every night. I want to make this time is the last.
How?
That’s a secret.
I guess it won’t be fare to scare such a timid person like Kishore.
To apply a logic for someone to bring him in a right track is not unfair- I replied.
I said- just go with him when he calls you. Enjoy my suspense but not be scared.
Everything was happening according to my plan. That day Kishore asked Ravi to come with him. When Kishore opened the toilet door he carried out with huge shout and ran from the toilet and after running 10-15 feet he fall down and became sense-less.
Every body gathered what happened including me and Ravi . After 10-15 minutes Kishore’s sense came back. Every one of us wanted to know what happened to him. He was looking at everybody with his strange eye but not showing any interest of telling anything. May be he did not want to make another teasing element for other students. Several previous incident done by him were the teasing element for other students. After everyone left I did not show any interest to know what happened as usual. Kishore could not able to sleep the whole night and I had to accompany him.
Next day morning I had to go to Kishore’s native with kishore. I was enjoying an unexpected holiday as I got the permission from the Head Master to go with Kishore to his native.
I didn’t know what Kishore explained about the incident. I started feeling guilty.
Kishore’s parents were very sweet with me. A huge lunch was arranged for us with four dish of fish including “golden fish”(my favourite) and one desi chicken.
In the evening an exorcist appeared at Kishore’s house. The exorcist was idolized by the village people. Anyway, I don’t want to turn that page.
I was feeling guilty and at the same time wondering what was happening around.
The ghost separation from Kishore’s body/soul was happening on courtyard. The exorcist gave a boundary centering Kishore and himself. A plate of dry fish, burned red chilly, two three green banana was kept in front of Kishore, several candles were lighting around the boundary line.
The exorcist’s eyes became red by doing the process. He started the Mantra (I have a doubt about the language) with his loudly voice. He stopped suddenly and said loudly to Kishore that- Balo balak tomer ki hoyachay?( tell me my boy what happened to you?)
Kishore was answering with his extra soft voice:
I saw a ghost in our hostel toilet which had an elephant body. It’s head was like a sheep but as trunk big as elephant’s head without its nose.
Huge fire was coming from it’s mouth. The heat of the fire made me out of my sense. I was enjoying the description of Kishore’s ghost and somehow manage to restrict from laughing.
What I did was a very simple thing: the beam of my torch made fell in my open mouth. That was all he saw when he opened the toilet door.
I could not stay there at the courtyard as I had a fear of seeing somebody laughing me. I thought of confess everything to Kishore and his parents next day morning but I failed to do that because Kishore’s parents were very carious about the ghost.
I never thought the silly matter will come till this end while made the plan. I swear to god that I won’t do the same mistake again.
But while I remember Kishore’s description about the ghost I can’t stop laughing.
